Lily Allen and Far-Right Twitter

Lily Allen and Far-Right Twitter

December 2019

I'd like to document this before it gets lost in the ether, because it is a beautiful example of double-standards.

1)

Lily Allen says Britain is RACIST: Singer believes Boris Johnson only stormed to victory because 'racism and misogyny runs so deep in this country', Daily Mail, 13th December 2019

In the above we see Lily Allen quoted as saying the following after the Conservatives won the 2019 General Election:

"Some say it was Brexit, some day it was Jeremy, personally, and I know no one wants to hear it, I think that racism and misogyny runs so so deep in this country and that Boris won because of his attitude towards those things and not in spite of them."

"Conservative supporters voted for 'kids to die with no healthcare.' "

" their [Conservatives] motives for swinging behind the Tories were to have 'less brown people' in the UK. "

"Vote for your kids to die with no healthcare and less brown ppl but the joke is capitalism needs cheap foreign workers to exploit so will NEVER reduce immigration so jokes on."

"the election had been undermined by right-wing propaganda "

"Of fuck off I shout out my privilege every 5 mins. It's because of my privilege and proximity to it that I know what inherently greedy cunts we all are."

"Guys I've just watched the Labour manifesto. I think it's the best manifesto I've ever seen." --> hilarious. If one takes the time to read it, it is in fact some of the best comedy ever written!

"The left don't have the resources of the right."

OK. So we get the idea.

2)

Next, we read the article in the Sun:

Lily Allen posts Instagram rant slamming social media sites for ‘spreading lies’ just a day after quitting Twitter , The Sun, 15th December 2019

In this article we read how apparently Twitter is a voice for the far-right when she said:

"I deleted my Twitter because I really believe that those platforms have given a voice to the far right, and they use them to spread disinformation and lies, ..."

Really! I think we all know why the Twitter account was deleted, containing such statements. Unfortunately, people take screenshots before the posts are deleted.

3)

Now - hold on a minute! So, saying the following aren't the views of someone on the far-right?:

"Conservative supporters voted for 'kids to die with no healthcare.' "

" their [Conservatives] motives for swinging behind the Tories were to have 'less brown people' in the UK. "

4)

I'm confused?
