For Britain versus Freespeech

For Britain versus Freespeech

June 2019

I noticed that in June 2019 the political party For Britain were banned from Twitter. On their website they comment on this silencing, by saying We've Been Suspended from Twitter:

"This morning we discovered that unfortunately our party has been suspended from Twitter. This looks to be a permanent ban, but we have not received any notification. It is very clear: Twitter is interfering with British politics and is busily engaged in the demonisation and silencing of dissenting political voices. For Britain has never indulged in racist or hateful behaviour, never encouraged or endorsed violence, so this censorship is based solely upon the fact our political views do not suit the elite - we are silenced because we are a threat to the established order. ..."

This is an increasing trend, and putting to one side for a moment one's own personal views of For Britain, it is both wrong and a direct breach of free speech to prevent someone or an organisation from speaking freely. Why? Because if you don't let them speak then how do you know what they are going to say? You are no wiser and preventing them from speaking freely only enforces your own personal prejudices.
