The 10 Conservative Leadership Candidates

The 10 Conservative Leadership Candidates

June 2019

On the 13th of June 2019 the 10 - yes, 10 - candidates for leader of the Conservative Party faced ballots from MPs.

Rarely before has the UK seen so many candidates putting themselves forward for top job. The whole fiasco sums up the career animals they are.

Who in their right mind would put themselves forward? Brexit has proved to be a poisoned chalice and sunk lame duck Theresa May and took the Conservative Party to its knees following the formation of the Brexit Party, and yet 10 candidates are queuing up for the job!

Proof that the majority of politicians are blinded by their own inflated egos and care about nothing apart from themselves.

The 1st round voting demonstrated the stupidity of allowing 10 candidates to put themselves forward:

What the 10 - yes, 10 - Conservative candidates couldn't see was how it presented themselves to the people, who see a party fighting with itself. This was exemplified in the case of the somewhat strange Rory Stewart [achieving just 19 or 6% of the 313 votes cast]. A man that stated publically he would do his best to try and bring down Boris Johnson if he pressed for suspending parliament:

"I guarantee you, if he were to try, I and every other member of Parliament will sit across the road in Methodist Central Hall and we will hold our own session of Parliament and we will bring him down,"

The man is a total unquestioning, slavish disciple of Mrs May. The quintessential modern day UK self-serving politician.

Rory Stewart is the definition of Delusional. In the 19th of June 2019 article Tory leadership contest: Rory Stewart boldly calls for rivals to quit so he can take on Boris Johnson we learnt that following the 18th of June live BBC debate he wants other contenders to withdraw so that the final race is just him versus Boris Johnson.

Here's a guy that gets 6% of the vote in the 1st round of voting and then believes he is PM material. 6% of the vote - no one gives you a shit what you say!

The 3rd round of the voting too place on the 19th of June, with the results:

Boris Johnson, 143 votes (+17)

Jeremy hunt, 54 votes

Michael Gove, 51 votes

Sajid Javid, 38 votes

Rory Stewart, 27 votes (-10)

The International Development Secretary monkey Rory Stewart was duly booted out.

20th June 2019 - 4th Round of Votes

Sajid Javid kicked out of the race, leaving the last 3 of Johnson, Hunt and Gove.

The voting went as follows:

Boris Johnson, 157 votes (+13) - 51%

Michael Gove, 61 votes (+10) - 20%

Jeremy Hunt, 59 votes (+5) - 19%

Sajid Javid, 34 votes (-4) - 11%

20th June 2019 - 5th Round of Votes

The voting went as follows:

Boris Johnson, 160 votes (+3) - 51%

Jeremy Hunt, 77 votes (+22) - 25%

Michael Gove, 75 votes (+14) - 24%

with Gove given the boot.

What a long drawn out boring process that only unaccountable politicians could come up with. The final decision as to who will be the new Conservative leader will only be announced on the 22nd of July, with parliamentary recess starting just 4 days later on the 25th of July! An election process drawn out from the 10th of June through to the 22nd of July!!

23rd July 2019 - 6th Round of Votes

The voting went s follows; Boris Johnson wins race to be Tory leader and PM:

Boris Johnson, 92,153 votes (66%)

Jeremy Hunt, 46,656 votes (33%)

out of 138,809 votes cast of an eligible 160,000 voters, with a turnout out of 87.4%.

What this entire episode has proved is just how much politicians have hijacked the media. Years ago when Maggie was replaced and Gordon Brown stepped into Blair's shoes, it was done and dusted in a matter of days. This entire process of 6 ballots, counting thousands of votes from Conservative Party members of 10 candidates down to 1, national TV debates, etc has been nothing more than ridiculous. You'd think it was the General Election itself.
