A key aspect of democracy is the freedom of expression and free speech. It must be for it is a key element in the freedom to express one's vote.

However, the 1,000+ arrests of the Extinction Rebellion protesters demonstrated that the UK is no longer a free and democratic nation:

The UK's democracy is an illusion. The political elite talk of free speech, freedom of expression, transparency, ... but when put to the test the authorities reveal their true colours.
